Navigating on Leadership University

On many websites, you can easily browse through the sites. They may contain 20 or 50 or 80 pages. However, Leadership U. is extremely large and very complex. To help you find information, we provide many ways to help you navigate the site.

When you enter a library, you can walk directly into the stacks and browse the holdings. But when you are looking for specific information, you probably choose to use one of the several tools provided by the library. Tools such as the card catalog and the indexes to periodical literature and journals provide valuable assistance in locating specific information in a library full of resources.

In the same way, we work hard at Leadership U. to provide helpful navigational aids to assist you in your search for information.

Many of you have been using Leadership U. for a long time and have used these navigation aids. Many of you are new to Leadership U., so let us explain some of our navigation aids.

  • Site Map
Our Site Map is a Javascript application that opens a new window. You can leave this window open to help you navigate the site. This navigation window provides the same list of main areas as the blue navigation bar that appears on all articles in Leadership U. The Site Map is a link on the blue navigation bar under the Navigation main heading.

  • Site Index
We provide a comprehensive Site Index of all articles on Leadership U., alphabetized by the title of the article. The Site Index link is in the blue navigation bar under the Navigation main heading.

  • Search Engines
Our search engines are available from the Leadership U. homepage (www.leaderu.com) or from the Advanced Search link on the blue navigation bar under the Navigation main heading.

    • Full Text Search
We fully index every article on Leadership U., using the popular Architext search engine by Excite. You can narrow your search by using a powerful feature of the Architext engine. When you find an article that is helpful, you can use that article as a model and have the Architext engine use its powerful artificial intelligence capabilities to find additional articles with similar concepts. Simply click on the small icon to the left of each article title to find similar articles.

    • Keyword Search
Each article has keywords assigned by the author of the article or by one of our Leadership U. editors. These keywords frequently help you target your search more effectively than the full text search. You can narrow your search in the Keyword search engine by clicking on one of the keywords listed for any article returned by the search engine. Clicking on one word or phrase will re-run the search using only that word or phrase.

    • Discipline Search
Each article has relevant disciplines assigned by the author of the article or by one of our Leadership U. editors. The Leadership U. Discipline Search allows you to retrieve all articles in a broad discipline category, such as Art or Philosophy. You can narrow your search in the Discipline search engine by clicking on one of the sub-disciplines listed for any article returned by the search engine. For example, searching on the discipline of Philosophy returns many articles. Finding an article that is helpful, you look at the assigned disciplines and see Philosophy of Science. Clicking this discipline will re-run the search using only this sub-discipline.

    • What's New Search
Many sites provide a What's New page. At Leadership U., we add so many new articles each week that we offer a What's New search engine. You can specify how many days back you wish to search for new resources. They are listed by the date they were added to Leadership U.

Our Advanced Search page is available through the blue navigation bar. This page provides additional capabilities. Advanced Search allows you to retrieve article summaries or no summaries through our Output Detail control. We allow you to specify the scholarship level to be used in the search. Each author or one of our Leadership U. editors assigns a scholarship level to every resource: high school, undergraduate, graduate, and research. We also allow you to define how precise the search must be when you specify multiple search terms through our Minimum Score. We allow you to specify how many resources you wish to return from the search through our Maximum Hits control.
