Telling the Truth at the speed of life.    (August 28, 2008)

Gay in the 90's

In a most unfortunate incident, a young man named Matthew Shepard was recently slain in Wyoming, allegedly for his homosexuality. Such an act of violence must meet with the strongest condemnation. It is unthinkable that anyone should condone this barbarous murder. The Bible condemns persecution. No one should be dealt such a fate, gay or not.

But the fact that the victim of this crime was a homosexual will not be soon forgotten. This incident forces us to again confront the question as to what the proper attitude toward homosexuality and those who practice it should be. We believe that there is a great deal of misunderstanding over this matter. We do not present the secular mainstream view on this issue. Nor do we pretend to. It is our mission to state the Biblical view on this matter in a helpful and compassionate way. We condemn any act of violence against an individual for his or her sexual disposition. This, we believe, is the Christian way to proceed and bear fruit.

—Leadership University Editor/Webmaster, Byron Barlowe
